FPT's strong arrival in the passenger car power market "wolf" came

On June 24th, Fiat Group held the "Beijing Public Transport Environmental Protection Engine Handover Ceremony and Press Conference on the 10th Anniversary of Beijing Public Transport and Fiat Power Technology Cooperation" at the Italian Embassy.

An important news brought by this press conference was that Beijing Public Transport once again purchased 1,200 Fiats, but it had previously purchased more than 4,600 Fiat engines.

In addition, 20 days before the conference, on June 4th, Shang Fei Hong just joined hands with Yutong to hold the LCC project launch ceremony.

Recently, Fiat frequently makes moves and targets the Chinese bus market. What kind of signal will it send?

Fiat's natural gas power knows Beijing's public transport approval

In 2013, it was the tenth year that Fiat Power Technology matched Beijing Public Transport.

In 2003, Fiat Power Technologies supplied the first batch of 300 natural gas engines to the Beijing Public Transport Group. To date, Fiat Power Technologies has provided more than 4,600 natural gas and energy-saving diesel engines for Beijing buses. During the 2008 Olympic Games in particular, Fiat Power Technologies provided 1,150 environmentally-friendly natural gas engines to Beijing Public Transport for the audience around the stadium to assist the “Green Olympics”.

Beijing Public Transport Group continued to purchase nearly 1200 Fiat Power Technologies natural gas engines this year, accounting for 60% of its total imported engine. Beijing's main bus lines in the city use imported engines, and only suburban lines use domestic engines.

According to reports, Beijing Bus purchases more than 300 Cursor8 (hereinafter referred to as C8) and more than 800 NEF6 natural gas engines. The assembly will be applied to single-vehicle, articulated and double-decker buses in Beijing. This 1200 natural gas bus will replace 60,000 private car emissions. Among them, the C8 natural gas engine adopts an in-line six-cylinder layout, with 7.8 liters of displacement, output power and torque reaching 213kW and 1300N.m respectively.

Similar to the C8 engine, the NEF6 natural gas engine also adopts an in-line six-cylinder arrangement with a displacement of 5.9 liters, a peak power of 147 kW and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. Both engines use multi-point injection systems to ensure accurate fuel injection and stable in-cylinder combustion. Compared with diesel engines, the PM2.5 emissions of these two natural gas engines have been reduced by more than 97% to the European EEV (enhanced environment-friendly vehicle) standards and higher than the national five emission standards.

Why does Beijing Bus purchase Fiat Power Technology repeatedly? Feng Xingfu, deputy general manager of Beijing Public Transport Group, said in an interview with the media: “Beijing buses use Fiat Power Technology engines for many years. These FPT natural gas engines have reached the national five standard emission standards, and they have strong power, stable performance, and advanced technology. The emission level is very low, which is in line with Beijing's urgent need to reduce PM2.5. In addition, Fiat Power Technology has a very good consistency of production compared to domestic engines."

According to Feng Hsiao-fu, the main line of Beijing bus in the urban area basically uses imported engines, and only the suburban lines use domestic engines. One of the main reasons for using imported engines is also that the level of emissions from imported engines is not only low, but also the production consistency is very good.

Shangfei Red and Yutong promote LCC to gain recognition from domestic passenger car users

Just 20 days ago on June 4, Yutong Motor Co., Ltd., together with Michelin and SAIC Fiat Powertrain Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as SFH), held the LCC (Life Cycle Cost Management) Initiation Meeting.

At the beginning of this month, Yutong Union’s promotion of the concept of LCC together with Philippine Red was aimed at guiding the purchase decision of the passenger transport company with the concept of the lowest life cycle cost. Companies, including Yutong and Shangfeihong, hope that users will know that their products have the lowest total cost during the entire life cycle of the bus.

Yutong bus sales staff said that for the 12-meter road bus, they will first recommend the user to wear the Phillips engine Cursor9 (hereinafter referred to as C9).

This C9 is the "brother" of the Fiat C8 equipped with Beijing buses, and the C8 is a product of the same engine platform. The C8 has a displacement of 7.8 liters and the C9 has a displacement of 8.7 liters.

When it comes to C9, Chinese customers are no strangers. This is the latest Fiat Power Technologies Cursor series engine that entered the Chinese market in 2007 with the establishment of SAIC Fiat Hongyan. As this engine is the latest product platform developed by Fiat, some qualities of C9, such as high power, high combustion efficiency, low noise, and low emission levels, are brought out from the “wife and child”.

It is understood that the C9 is currently assembled on SAIC Iveco Hongyan's Jieshi and other heavy trucks. After several years of testing in the market, it is being understood by more Chinese users. Shang Feihong, general manager of Philippine Red, said: “Shangfeihong’s sales volume has developed rapidly in the past two years and it has exceeded 20,000 units last year. This is mainly due to two reasons. First, the export market is developing rapidly and our products are sold on the one hand. To the American market, it is used for the New Holland construction machinery under the Fiat Group; on the other hand, our Euro 6 Cursor 13 engine is also exported to Europe, supporting Iveco buses, Dutch VDL buses, etc. Domestically, despite heavy trucks for the past two years, The development of the market is not ideal, but the sales of Hongyanjieshi heavy truck and C9 have been increasing. Shangfeihong's products have strong competitive advantages, advanced technology platforms, and the manufacturing process is produced in full accordance with European quality standards."

However, because the C9 is mainly equipped with heavy trucks, it is still relatively unfamiliar to the passenger car market. Perhaps it is for this reason that Shang Fei Hong Cai and Yutong joined forces to use the new concept of LCC to promote their power products. It is important to know that Yutong is the leader of China's bus industry and can join forces with Yutong to carry out the strategic launch and promotion of LCC. There is no doubt that the Shangri-Red C9 has entered the passenger car market and found a shortcut for users to quickly recognize it.

How Fiat Power Supports the Future of Chinese Buses

Does Fiat's imported C8 and domestic C9 have a share of the Chinese bus market?

Although Fiat's imports of engines C8 and NEF are of superior quality and can meet China’s urgent energy-saving and emission-reduction demands, its high prices may only be attributed to economically developed cities.

However, the C9 of Shang Fei Hong (SAIC Fiat Red Rock) is not the same. “The price of C9 is at the same level as Weichai and Yuchai's same displacement high pressure common rail models, and there is no obvious difference,” said Yu Ning, general manager of Fiat Power Technology Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in an interview with the media. Said: "C9 is the first engine that was put into production when it was built in 2007. At present, the localization rate has exceeded 90%, and key components such as cylinder block and cylinder head have been localized, and the cost has been greatly reduced."

An engine produced with the latest European engine technology is close to domestically produced engines of the same technology route. What kind of scenario will an engine enter into the Chinese bus market?

In addition, it must be noted that this engine is associated with the boss of China's bus industry, and at the same time, it is accompanied by the promotion of the concept of “the lowest cost of use from the entire life cycle”. Yu Ning said that Shanghai-based Philippine Red will provide the user with a three-year, 360,000-kilometer long warranty period, with a design mileage of B10 of 1 million kilometers and an oil replacement mileage of up to 100,000 kilometers.

However, the C9 may not have a sudden impact on the domestic passenger car power supply market. After all, the 8.7-liter displacement is only the engine of overseas ancestry for Cummins and Shanghai Hino, as well as the Weichai and Yuchai high horsepower segments. Engine. For the main power market for passenger cars, Fiat Power Technology is not involved in much. However, it should be noted that in addition to C9, Shang Fei Hong has now produced C13, while other engines with lower emissions have listed C13 as a plan for the introduction of production.
