Kraton to build 30,000 tons HSBC unit in China

On May 17th, Kraton High Performance Polymer Co., Ltd. announced in Guangzhou that it will use its most advanced patented technology to build a 30,000 tonne/year hydrogenated styrene block copolymer (HSBC) device in China. The site is planned for the second half of this year and is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2013.

Kraton Polymers is the world's largest manufacturer of styrene block copolymers (SBC) and has 50 years of R&D and production experience. Compared with SBC, its newly developed HSBC has superior performance, wider application and diversification, and an advantage in high-end applications.

According to Lothar Freund, Kraton’s vice president of production technology, HSBC’s annual growth rate in Asia in 2001–2008 was 11%, compared to 19% in 2009–2014. Asia is the key to the strategic development of Kraton. In 2010, Asia-Pacific region accounted for 21% of Kraton's global revenue, of which 43% came from HSBC. China is also the fastest growing country in Kraton's Asian business. China’s demand is diversified, and high-end demand is also increasing. Constructing HSBC production facilities in China will provide Chinese customers with first-class products and technical services. Lay the foundation. He also said that Kraton's current development strategy is "heavy" rather than "heavy." In order to better provide high-end differentiated products, they will also give up relatively low-end products.

He also revealed that as early as two years ago, Kraton had the idea to build a factory in China, but due to the financial crisis, the plan was forced to be postponed. With the current global economy recovering, Kraton's business in China is also rapidly expanding and the number of employees will also double, thereby providing China's customers with first-class technical services and better customer needs.

Kraton's polymer products can be used in a variety of applications such as adhesives, coatings, consumer products, personal care products, sealants, lubricants, medical, packaging, automotive, asphalt modification, roofing waterproofing materials, and shoe materials.
