Japan's first ME-GI engine is tested at the factory

Mann (ship hangar) diesel engine (purchasing supply) and Turbo have announced that Japan's first ME-GI engine (purchasing supply) has recently been tested at Mitsui's Tamano plant.

It is reported that the test was conducted under the supervision of the DNV GL classification society. The engine was delivered to the first of two VT Halter Marine's 8S70ME-C8.2-GI engines, which will be installed on two Crowley 2400-teu windboats.

Crowley placed orders in early 2014, ordering one ME-GI engine and three MAN 9L28/32DF auxiliary machines (purchased from the product library) for each ship.

The two rolling boats will be named "El Coquí" and "Taíno" and are expected to be delivered in the second and fourth quarters of 2017. They will also be the world's first LNG powered gathering ships with a speed of 22 knots. It can transport containers of different sizes and hundreds of vehicles.
