Sinopec plans to formally operate the Qingdao Dongjiakou liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving station in October 2014. The receiving station has an annual receiving capacity of 3 million tons. At present, the project construction has completed 85% and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2014.
LNG receiving stations include LNG terminals and LNG tank farms. The implementation of LNG cold energy utilization can reduce the cold pollution and increase the level of comprehensive energy utilization. LNG cold energy can be used in a wide range of fields: It can be based on the conditions of natural gas to choose the way of gas turbine or expansion, using LNG cold energy to generate electricity; can be received at LNG Next to the station, a low-temperature cold store is built to use LNG cold energy frozen foods; LNG cold energy can also be used for low-temperature drying and crushing; it can be used in medicine and food industries; LNG cold energy can be used to liquefy carbon dioxide, used in welding, firefighting, frozen foods, etc.; LNG can be used to separate air and produce liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen and liquid argon.
Sinopec's plan for importing LNG receiving stations has fallen behind competitors PetroChina and CNOOC, but through stable and long-term supply, Sinopec is steadily establishing an import receiving station system.
After the completion of Qingdao LNG receiving station, Sinopec will build the following: 1. Lianyungang receiving station in Jiangsu Province will receive 3 million tons annually and put into production in 2015; 2. Guangxi Beihai receiving station will receive 3.5 million tons annually, and it will be put into production by the end of 2015; 3. The Tianjin North Receiving Station will receive 3 million tons annually and will start production in 2016.
