Ticona has for the first time added thermoplastic composite products to its long fiber-reinforced Celstran line. Ticona's latest products are products that are light and can withstand higher pressures based on increasing market demand. Celstran thermoplastic composites consist of a series of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics that can be tailored to the specific requirements of customers. They are lighter than thermosetting resins and many light metal alloys and can be processed in a more rational and environmentally friendly manner. Celstran thermoplastic composites are particularly suitable for light weight structural design in energy, aircraft, rail vehicles and automotive applications, and are also particularly suitable for higher stress components in industrial construction and factory construction.
There are two key success factors for turning inspiration into reality. One is to have new ideas, and the other is to implement these ideas with the right materials. Dating back to Leonardo da Vinci's years, the dream of flying inspired many blueprints, but there is no corresponding test flight - this is not without reason. After all, there are many things that need to be developed. No one can think of engineering plastics or anything like that. As materials specialists, engineers and designers have made every effort to develop these high-performance materials and design robust solutions, this has enabled people to exploit the advantages of thermoplastic composites to develop new components for modern aircraft, passenger cars, racing cars and trains. Both dimensions and dimensions were originally unimaginable.
Celstran Thermoplastic Composites - Wide, Custom Specifications
Ticona's new Celstran thermoplastic composites provide high-performance materials for the implementation of lightweight structural designs and higher stress components. Apart from the lighter weight of these products, the most important thing is to meet the requirements of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Using different thermoplastic matrix materials (PP, POM, TPU, etc.), embedding various fibers (glass fiber, carbon fiber, etc.) and adding additives, the properties of the material can meet special requirements
A large number of so-called "thermoplastic matrix fiber continuous reinforcing tape (CFRTP)" can be post-processed by winding or pressing. Australian Quickstep Technologies' patented "vacuum fluid heat transfer" process highlights the advantages of these semi-finished products. Even complex and symmetrical products can be optimized for production processes to shorten the production cycle. Thanks to Ticona's thermoplastic matrix material, the new material can be processed in a variety of processes with very simple, low-cost compounding or further processing as soon as preliminary molding is completed. Other advantages of this thermoplastic matrix material include: good environmental compatibility, lower emissions aftertreatment and good reproducibility.
Celstran thermoplastic composites are produced by continuous impregnation with unidirectionally oriented reinforcing fibers in a continuous process. This prepreg tape can achieve outstanding mechanical properties and good surface quality. Currently, Ticona's standard product line includes 10-, 15-, 20-, and 25-cm wide pre-dip tapes. For customers' special requirements, custom solutions can also be provided.
The future begins with the dream
“The popularity of lightweight structures has created an area with great potential for growth. As a plastics manufacturer, Ticona's pace in the direction of thermoplastic composites is steadfast and valuable.†Celstran Business Manager, Ticona, Frank Luto (Frank Reuter) said so. This view reflects the company's many years of experience in long fiber reinforced thermoplastics. It is also this experience that will help today's Leonardo da Vinci realize their dreams for the future...
