On August 24th, the reporter learned from the seminar on the development of China's fluorosilicon materials held in Zibo, Shandong Province that the fluorite resources that fluorinated workers in China are unable to regenerate will face exhaustion. According to the existing extraction volume and proven reserves, China's acid-grade fluorite has only 25 years of availability. People in the fluorochemical industry have called for the protection and rational use of fluorite resources from national security to further limit the export of fluorspar and hydrogen fluoride.
Fluorinated workers are strategic industries. It has two major features: First, it has a wide range of industries, and second, it has a large degree of industrial correlation. Especially products are widely used in military, chemical and other fields. According to industry insiders, for a long time to come, fluorinated workers will be one of the fastest growing and most promising industries in the chemical industry. Fluorite is the main raw material for fluorinated workers, and many countries regard it as a strategic resource. According to the director of China's fluorosilicone organic material industry association, Yue Rundong, although China's fluorite resources are abundant, there are many poor mines, few rich deposits, and a large proportion of associated minerals. According to the data from the China Chemical Mining Industry Association, in the next 20 years, China needs a total of 37 million tons of fluorspar, but currently there are only 30 million tons of fluorite rich ore reserves with domestic mining value, and the number of fluorspar that can be used for acid production is also counted. Only available for 25 years.
The reporter also learned that China is still the world’s largest fluorite exporter. In order to protect fluorite resources, China has implemented a quota system for exporting fluorite since 2001. Fluorite exports have rapidly dropped from 1.2 million tons in 2000 to 837,200 tons in 2004. At the same time, however, the export of hydrofluoric acid using fluorspar as the main raw material has rapidly increased from 17,000 tons in 2001 to 69,000 tons in 2004, and is expected to exceed 90,000 tons this year. The increase in the export volume of hydrofluoric acid actually represents a faster outflow of fluorite resources.
When analyzing the causes and approaches for the export of fluorspar and hydrofluoric acid, Professor Zhou Kejing, expert committee of the China Fluorine-Silicon Silicone Organic Materials Industry Association, explained that the export of fluorspar is currently very profitable. The domestic price of high-grade fluorite is US$70 per ton, and foreign is US$170 per ton. In addition to direct exports, some fluorite resources were eaten by foreign companies in domestically built hydrofluoric acid plants, forming a disguised export.
People in the fluorochemical industry have called for the country to decisively restrict the export of strategic resources such as fluorite for national security. At the same time, strict control of low-level, high-pollution hydrogen fluoride installations must be implemented.
