The Pearl River Delta Region will implement the fourth phase of national standards for the discharge of motor vehicle pollutants from September 1, 2010. By then, in the Pearl River Delta region, new vehicles for motor vehicles will need to meet the national IV standard to be branded.
For the commercial vehicle industry, this will inevitably lead to another technological innovation of the traditional fuel engine. In this technological change, where do engine companies go? What difficulties are there to overcome when upgrading from State III to State IV? The reporter recently interviewed Shanghai. Sun Qi, chief engineer of Hino Engine Co., Ltd.
"We are ready for the National IV."
Sun Qi said, “We are already well prepared for the national IV emission standards. We have already started the R&D of the Chinese IV engine and the finished products have also been shown to the public. Before and after the 2010 Spring Festival, our national IV engine It will be listed in batches.†“Shanghai Hino is the first domestic manufacturer with the capacity to produce heavy-duty diesel engines with a mass production country III emission standard. Compared with other domestic engine companies, Shanghai Hino’s national IV models are put on the market later, but In the national IV research and development, our development strategy is to improve steadily, not eager to open up new markets, but on the basis of ensuring the reliability and stability of the national III products, and then develop models for the national IV emission standards. â€
“Our requirement is to first secure the existing market, stand firm, and seek development on the basis of maintaining the existing market share. Although many engine companies’ IV research and development work is ahead of Shanghai Hino, Judging from the results achieved so far, we do not lag behind others."
Sun Qi told reporters that from 2009 to 2010, the main technical task of Shanghai Hino was the application design and experimental matching of the National IV series engine. At present, the matching of the National IV host has been started in some commercial vehicle companies such as Shenyang Hino and Sany Heavy Industry, and it is expected to complete the relevant tests in the third quarter of 2010.
"After the related tests and small batches of assembly work are completed, our National IV engine will be available in volume before and after the 2010 Spring Festival."
It is understood that the Shanghai Hino IV engine is characterized by an electronically controlled EGR+variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) that has been upgraded from a high-pressure common rail to an ultra-high pressure common rail + stepless regulation. Stepless EGR and VGT technologies are proprietary technologies of Shanghai Hino, and currently there are no other manufacturers in the country to master these two technologies.
Take the road of China IV engine with its own characteristics
"The domestic engine companies have adopted the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to upgrade the national IV standard. However, after comprehensive consideration of various factors, we chose the cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)."
The pollutant discharge standard has been upgraded from State III to State IV. The main goal is to further reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOX) and particulate matter (PM). At present, there are two main routes to achieve this goal - SCR and EGR. The SCR route does not require major modification of the engine body, and it is more convenient for the transformation of the in-use vehicle. At the same time, the route also has the advantages of low diesel oil quality and good fuel economy. Foreign companies such as Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Duff, as well as domestic companies such as Weichai, Shangchai and Chaochao, are all adopting the SCR line.
