Scotland will install the world's largest tidal generator worthy of attention

Atlantis Resources Corp. demonstrated the world's largest tidal turbine in Scotland. It is said that it produces enough electricity to supply at least 1,000 homes.

The Singapore-based tidal energy company said in an e-mailed statement that the 18-meter-long turbine of the AK1000 generator has 1 megawatt of generating capacity and can be used by at least 1,000 households.

This turbine will be installed later this year at the European Maritime Energy Center in Orkney, Scotland.

The British government said in March that by 2020, the tide around Britain could provide enough electricity for 1.4 million homes. However, this industry, which has been invested by Siemens and Vattenfall, is still at a stage of development.

Previously, the largest tidal energy generator in the United Kingdom was a 1.2 MW twin-flow turbine, which was installed by Ocean Current Turbine in 2008 at Strangford Bay in the north of England. Its 16-meter-long turbine provides twice as much electricity as an equivalent wind turbine because the tide is predictable and the wind is not always blowing.
