China's first automatic transmission made by Mitsubishi technology and independently manufactured in China was released on February 1 in Harbin Dongan Automotive Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. At this point, Dongan Automotive Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. became the first domestic manufacturer of automotive engines, manual transmissions and automatic transmission technologies.
Dongan Automobile Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has an automatic transmission project with a total investment of 2 billion yuan and plans to form an annual capacity of 300,000 units. At present, the construction of the first phase of the project has been completed on schedule, and it has an annual production capacity of 150,000 automatic transmissions. The transmission is divided into two series of 4AT and 5AT, and has a technical space that is upgraded to 6AT.
According to reports, the automatic transmission of the off-line has the characteristics of compact structure, light weight, low noise, and good maneuverability, and has achieved the unity of comfort, power and economy. Matching the appropriate engine can meet the national fuel consumption regulations and emission requirements of the third stage, and can meet the demand for engine displacement power of 1.3L-2.4L displacement.
Ma Chuanli, chairman and general manager of Dongan Automobile Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd., said that the introduction of Dongan automatic transmission products will change the situation in which domestic automatic transmissions mainly rely on imports, high procurement costs, and narrow import channels, and can meet the requirements of self-owned brand auto companies for automatic transmissions. The urgent need is of great significance to the technical upgrading and industrial development of China's automatic transmissions and to the independent development of the Chinese national automobile industry.
Automatic transmission has a broad market prospect and development space in China. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, passenger cars equipped with automatic transmissions account for more than 28.5% of the total number of passenger vehicles. In the future, with the expansion of China's auto market size and the increase in residents' spending power, the ratio of automatic transmissions will show a rapid growth.
Dongan Automobile Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was established in 1998. It is a Chinese-foreign joint venture funded by Chinese companies and Japanese and Malaysian companies. China holds 70% of the shares. Utilizing a joint venture with Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, one of the shareholders, Dongan Automotive Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. purchased a wholly-owned intellectual property of Mitsubishi's automatic transmission technology in June 2008.
At present, Dongan Automobile Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has become an important engine and transmission development and production base in China. As of 2009, the company has produced and sold 1.55 million sets of automobile engines and 1.5 million sets of manual transmissions.
