From January to August this year, China's commercial vehicle import and export markets continued to maintain a "surplus" in terms of export volume and total trade volume. The trade surplus was 197,100 units, and the trade volume surplus was US$2.149 billion. While this year's domestic truck market continued to boom, trucks in the export market also experienced a fiery sales situation.
According to customs statistics, from January to August, cumulative exports of commercial vehicles totaled 204,800 units, reaching 88.59% of the total export volume in 2006; the cumulative export volume was 2.903 billion US dollars. Among them, the number of trucks exported reached 168,300, an increase of 48.33% year-on-year. According to the comparison of export amount, trucks still rank first in China's auto exports.
Segment markets are growing rapidly
In the truck export market, ordinary goods vehicles exported a total of 145,900 units from January to August, an increase of 52.63% year-on-year; the trade volume was 1.209 billion US dollars, which reached 122.19% of the total export volume for the year 2006 (USD 990 million). Among them, ordinary trucks below 5 tons have a relative price advantage and have become the main export models of overseas markets. According to statistics, the average price of ordinary truck exports from January to August reached 8287.655 US dollars, an increase of 30.09% from the average annual export price of ordinary trucks (6,370.381 US dollars) in 2006.
The tractor market totaled 0.97 million units from January to August, which had reached 147.95% of the total export volume (0.65 million units) in 2006; the trade volume reached 332 million US dollars, exceeding the total amount of tractor exports in 2006 (1.33 billion). 2.5 times the U.S. dollar; the average tractor tractor price in 2007 was 34,269.06 U.S. dollars, an increase of 66.02% over the 2006 tractor export price (20,641.69 U.S. dollars).
Dump truck market exported a total of 0.78 million units from January to August, and the export volume increased significantly compared to 2006, reaching 101.42% of the total export volume (0.77 million units) of last year; the trade volume was 252 million US dollars, reaching 2006 full scale. The total annual export volume (USD 192 million) was 131.31%; in 2007, the average export price of dump trucks was USD 32,441.57, which was 29.47% higher than the export price of dump trucks (USD 25,057.32) in 2006.
The special-purpose vehicle market exported a total of 08,300 vehicles from January to August, reaching 186.36% of the total exports (0.45 million units) in 2006; the trade volume was 587 million US dollars. Among them, lifting vehicles, cement mixers, and power cars have the largest export volume. The average export price of special vehicles from January to August was 70,306.69.
The new policy is effective
Experts pointed out that the good situation of the truck export market in 2007 mainly benefited from the related automobile export trade policies introduced by the country this year, mainly including the “Ministry of Commerce, Development and Reform Commission, General Administration of Customs, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of Chinaâ€. The Circular on Regulating Automobile Export Orders was issued and implemented; on March 1, 2007, the State implemented export license management for automobiles (including spare parts) and its chassis; the Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs issued the "2007 Export License". Cars (including spare parts) and their chassis have been added to the “Cash Management Catalogâ€. The introduction of these new export policies has resulted in the effective control of auto exports. From March 1, 2007, only 600 of the 1465 auto export records of last year won auto licenses for 2007. The overall quality of the export is thus guaranteed.
The implementation of the New Automobile Export Policy has effectively increased the efficiency of domestic automobile exports. In 2006, the average domestic automobile export bicycle average price was about 9128.8 US dollars, of which the average price of commercial vehicle bicycles was about 9198.42 US dollars. From January to August of this year, the average price of domestic auto exports was about $10,219, an increase of 11.09% from the 2006 average price.
With the continuous introduction of China's auto export policy and the improvement of relevant standards, the phenomenon of "scatter, chaos, and difference" in China's commercial vehicle exports is gradually being regulated, and the position of trucks in the export market is increasingly prominent.
At the same time, at present, the mainstream domestic truck companies pay more attention to avoid staying at the low-level level of the price war when they conduct export trade, but instead increase the adjustment of product technology upgrades. With the increasingly frequent exchanges with the international market, the gap between China’s trucking companies in research and development capabilities and manufacturing processes is gradually narrowing, and major commercial vehicle manufacturers have begun to shift from “opportunistic exports†to “strategic exportsâ€. Major truck companies have listed exports as an important strategic development goal for the next year.
Some industry experts predict that with the expectation that the growth rate of heavy trucks may fall back in 2008, having export scale and technological competitive advantages will enable leading companies such as China National Heavy Duty Truck Group and Shaanxi Auto to continue to maintain rapid sales growth over the same period last year.
