According to the latest statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, SAIC, FAW, and Dongfeng’s three major automobile groups all exceeded one million in 2007, accounting for nearly half of the nation’s automobile sales, and continue to be the main force driving the development of China’s auto industry.
According to statistics from the China Automobile Association, SAIC, FAW and Dongfeng production and sales reached 1.554 million units, 1.43 million units, and 1,113,300 units, respectively, an increase of 25.11%, 23.19%, and 21.98% year-on-year, respectively, and their market share reached 17.68% and 16.33%, respectively. And 12.94%. In 2007, the three major groups sold a total of 412.73 million cars, which accounted for 47% of the total sales of cars in the country. The three major groups sold a total of 3.39 million passenger cars, which accounted for 55% of the total passenger car sales; and sold 688,300 commercial vehicles, accounting for 28% of the total commercial vehicle sales.
According to statistics from the China Automobile Association, the top ten auto companies in China in 2007 were: SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Chang'an, BAIC, GAC, Chery, Brilliance, Hafei and Geely. Compared with the same period of last year, Hafei had a slight decline, and other companies still maintained a steady growth, of which Guangzhou Automobile and Brilliance had the most significant increase. In 2007, these ten companies sold a total of 7.3365 million vehicles, accounting for 83% of the total sales of domestic cars.
These figures fully illustrate that although the world's auto brands have entered the Chinese market and launched fierce competition, the three major auto groups with me, plus Chang'an, Guangzhou Automobile and other companies are still the main force of the Chinese auto industry. At the same time, it also confirms that China’s autos have taken me as their mainstay and that the development of foreign joint ventures and cooperation has been the right path. In the early days of reform, China’s auto production was only a few thousand units. The products were basically hand-knocked and beaten with modern cars. Under the guidance of the reform and opening up policy, Chinese automobiles have embarked on the road of introduction and opening up of foreign joint ventures and cooperation. FAW, Dongfeng, SAIC, BAIC, GAC, etc. have formed joint ventures with internationally renowned multinational corporations. After more than 20 years of cooperation, China Auto companies have learned advanced international management experience and modern carmaking technology, cultivated a new generation of car management and R&D talents, and have grown their own development strength. FAW's self-developed "liberation" heavy trucks have entered the world's forefront; Dongfeng's "Eastern Wind Warrior" third-generation military off-road vehicle is shocking; SAIC has gone abroad to acquire Britain's world famous brand. In the course of joint ventures and cooperation, they learned about technology and management, and in particular cultivated and stockpiled a large number of talented people. All these have laid a solid foundation for the future development of Chinese automobiles. There is reason to believe that as long as the big Chinese car companies do not give up their efforts and move forward steadily towards the goals they have set, they will one day become a major automobile group with international competitiveness.
