Shell Lubrication Enhances Industrial Lubricant Economy

A few days ago, Shell invited partners and industry media to visit Shell Shanghai Technology Center. During the two-day visit to Shell, we experienced the lubricity and scientific charm of the tour. We observed the advanced R&D technology of the lubrication laboratory and truly felt that the Shell Lubrication Science can bring practical benefits to the industry and enterprises.

According to statistics, the global demand for lubricants was 35.3 million tons in 2013. China's demand for lubricants exceeded 6 million tons in 2013 has become the world's largest market. In order to better serve the Chinese industrial lubricants market, Shell established the third Shell Technology Global R&D Center in Shanghai on March 25, 2014. According to Dr. Selda Gunsel, Vice President of Global Commercial Technology at Shell, the technology center's research includes automotive, truck , wind power, transformers, manufacturing, and marine industries. It can provide research and development and technical services for transmission fluids, lubricants, and greases. . Advanced research and development projects that can be researched in the laboratory include transmission experiments, heavy-load chassis testing, and engine qualification tests, which can provide all-round escort for corporate equipment.

Shell has always been known for its technological leadership. Shell product R&D accounts for 10% of total investment each year. At the same time, it has 45,000 technical service employees and engineers, and holds a number of industry patents. The energy challenge makes energy saving and consumption reduction an important technical indicator for measuring industrial lubricants in the future. How to bring maximum economic benefits to customers is a constant concern for Shell R&D.

Ronald Bakker, general manager of Shell China Industrial Lubricant Technology, told reporters that lubricants account for a relatively high proportion of equipment operation and maintenance costs, so Shell paid great attention to the study of lube economy. Based on the properties of the lubricants and the use of the products, Shell achieves performance matching and balance. The introduction of smarter lubricants saves the use of lubricants in addition to human operations. Shell cooperates with OEMs and customers to improve fuel economy to reduce CO2 emissions, and innovative fuels and lubricants work with customers to design hardware and lubricants to improve the economics of lubricants.
