Rolls-Royce has received a contract worth £19 million to deliver deck machinery to four ocean-going tugs. It is reported that four tugs are designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, the shipowner is the Dutch ALP Maritime Service Company, and the new ship will be built by Niigata Shipbuilding and Repairing Co., Japan.
The tugs were developed for long-distance towing large structures, such as oil platforms and floating production units, each with a bollard pull of 300 tons for anchor handling operations.
The deck machinery delivered by Rolls-Royce consists of a complete set of low-pressure winch solutions and aft rollers, which are specially developed in collaboration with designers and ship owners. In addition, Luo Luo will supply rudder and steering gear.
The new vessel will be able to operate globally and is expected to begin delivery in the first quarter of 2016, using the Ulstein SX157 design.
