EPCOS demonstrated its evaporator sensor designed for air conditioning systems. The glass-passivated NTC element is covered with a special halogenated hydrocarbon polymer and sealed in a moisture-tight enclosure. This innovative technology and process allows these sensors to operate continuously for 10,000 hours in a immersion test at a temperature of 80°C. The purpose of developing this sensor is not only to improve reliability but also to improve response time. The new product is five times more reliable than its predecessor and has a response time that is half that of its predecessor and reaches less than four seconds in the airflow. Using this new sensor enables more efficient cooling, which reduces fuel consumption.
Another application of this 10,000-hour evaporator sensor is the long-term stability of the sensor system, as it is equipped with an evaluation circuit. TDK-EPC is also designing an extremely reliable anti-freeze switch that will incorporate evaluation electronics into new sensors.
