Comparison of major export and import countries of auto parts in the United States
According to the statistics from the US Bureau of Statistics, the largest export destination for US auto parts is Canada and Mexico in the North American Free Trade Area, followed by Europe. (See Table 1)

The two largest importers of US auto parts are Mexico and Canada, and the third largest is Japan. The amount of auto parts imported from Japan by the United States is higher than the amount of auto parts imported from the EU. (See Table 2)

In the past two years, the deficit in U.S. auto parts has narrowed
From 2000 to 2007, the overall trade deficit in US auto parts has increased. The trade deficit has increased from 13.239 billion US dollars in 2001 to 38.277 billion US dollars in 2007. However, in 2008 and 2009, the trade deficit gradually narrowed, and it narrowed to 20.316 billion U.S. dollars in 2009. (See Figure 1)

In Asia, the largest deficit in auto parts trade in the United States comes from Japan. However, this deficit has narrowed since 2006. (See Figure 3)

From the point of view of the auto parts trade between the United States and China, the U.S. trade deficit with China continued to expand from 2001-2008, and it narrowed significantly in 2009. (See Figure 3)
