Nantong COSCO Heavy Industry 1200T gantry crane domestic production is coming to an end

It is reported that the production and installation of the Russian 1200T gantry crane project of Nantong COSCO Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. is nearing completion. The main beam, the upper trolley and the soft leg struts will begin to be loaded at the end of April. The main beam has the shipping conditions, which marks the basic completion of the project in the country and is a major node of the project.

On April 23, the owner of the 1200T gantry crane project, Mr. Emerson Milenski, assistant to the president of the Russian National Petroleum Corporation, and Mr. John Chua, the project director, came to the domestic closing scene of the gantry crane for inspection.

Wang Zhiyan, general manager of Nantong COSCO Heavy Industry, deputy general manager Zhang Jianxin and Qiu Xunbin accompanied the inspection. In this inspection, the project owner and Nantong COSCO Heavy Industries discussed the unloading, assembly and upgrading of the 1200T gantry crane in Russia.

History of Sand Ladder

However, the first commercially available sand ladder was invented by the U.S. Army and commenced manufacture in 1941 called Marsden Matting. It was extremely functional and was primarily used for the fast temporary construction of air fields and vehicle tracks on soft and muddy ground. An estimated 800 million square feet of Marsden Matting was manufactured during World War II.

Later Marsden Matting became known as PSP (perforated steel planking) and was constructed from a magnesium steel alloy. This military surplus PAP became the first sand ladders to be commonly used by 4wd enthusiasts and was popular on the roof racks of Land Rovers.

World War II Sand Ladder

Steel and aluminium Sand Ladders were used in WWII to build temporary air fields and roads. It was called Marsden Matting or later PSP or PAP. It was a quick solution to allow vehicles through soft and muddy ground.
4wd vehicle owners often still make use of these types of sand ladders and offer a military look on the outside of some Land Rovers.
