Since Honda, Nissan, and Honda's three major Japanese automobile manufacturers all set up bases in Guangzhou, Japan is the main source of auto parts imports in Guangdong Province in the first three quarters of this year. The amount of imports was 886 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 37%. During the same period, the total import and export trade volume of auto parts in Guangdong Province was 60.3%. In terms of exports, the United States and Japan are the major exporters of auto parts in Guangdong Province. Exports in the first three quarters of this year were 170 million and 131 million, respectively, which increased by 19.7% and 28.7% respectively.

The import and export of auto parts in Guangdong presents a remarkable feature. Imported parts have high technological content and high value, while export parts have the opposite. Among them, the imported part was dominated by the high-tech key item “Automatic shifting gearbox for cars”. In the first three quarters of this year, Guangdong imported 259 million U.S. dollars worth of goods, an increase of 56.3%, accounting for nearly 30 percent of the total imports. %; while exports to the United States and Japan are mostly automotive components with low technical content and value, the average export price is only 5.04 US dollars / kg.

According to customs statistics, from January to September 2005, the total number of cars exported from Guangdong reached 4,100, valued at US$56.366 million, a rapid increase of 47.2 times and 18.8 times respectively. Since July, the monthly export volume has exceeded 1,000 for three consecutive months, and exports have shown strong growth. At present, there are more than 350 auto parts manufacturers in Guangdong Province, and there are common conditions in which the number of companies is large and the production capacity and technical content are low.
