On February 28, 2011, Freescale Semiconductor announced the launch of MM912J637 intelligent battery sensor IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) for measuring parameters such as voltage, current and temperature of vehicle-mounted lead-acid batteries and calculating battery status.
The device uses a 16-bit second-order ΣΔ analog-to-digital converter ADC, a programmable gain amplifier PGA, and a programmable wake-up timer to enable real-time data on battery voltage, differential current, and temperature. Monitoring and precise measurement allow the driver to fully control the battery status, thereby reducing component failures and ensuring the vehicle's fuel economy level.
Gavin Woods, vice president and general manager of Freescale analog mixed-signal and power division, revealed: “As the electronic components of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles continue to increase and the start-stop system has emerged, it is increasingly important to continuously monitor the status of car batteries. Especially in the harsh automotive interior working environment, we provide the industry's first fully automated battery parameters for accurate monitoring of low-cost solutions, and the relevant data can be shared with other vehicle systems and drivers, allowing drivers to feel at ease when they need to control the battery status. â€
MM912J637 smart battery sensor has higher reliability and lower cost. At present, the product is in the prototype stage and is expected to be put into mass production in September 2011. Evaluation kits and related software tools are currently available.
