Canadian amendment to the Dangerous Goods Act involves musical instrument products

According to the report of the inspection and quarantine information network, the Canadian government recently announced amendments to the "Hazardous Products Act" (HPA) aimed at restricting the lead content of consumer goods as defined in the new "Containered Leaded Consumer Products (Contact with the mouth) Regulations." . According to the proposal, the lead content in consumer products must not exceed 90 mg/kg. "leaded consumer goods" means:

In addition to kitchen utensils, products that come in contact with the user's mouth during normal use (eg, baby bottle mouth, teether, bib; drinking straws, drinking nozzles, and other drinking aids; mouthpieces and sports equipment for musical instruments The mouthpiece part); and products used by children under the age of three for playing or learning (for example, children's crayons, children's paints and toys for children under three years of age).

This regulation does not apply to the following products:

Articles listed in Part 1 (Item 42) of Appendix 1 to the Hazardous Products Act;

Products controlled by the Ceramics and Glassware Regulations.

Exemption:

For accessible parts that meet all of the following requirements, the total lead content can exceed 90 mg/kg:

Lead is an essential component of the basic characteristics of the component;

No replacement parts with low lead content;

According to the EN71 part 3 test, the soluble lead content in this part does not exceed 90 mg/kg.
